Née en 1991 en Nouvelle-Galles du Sud, Niah Juella McLeod appartient au peuple Yuin par son père et à une lignée anglo-celtique par sa mère. Ce double héritage, intime et puissant, irrigue une œuvre où spiritualité, mémoire et guérison se tissent dans un langage pictural profondément ancré dans la tradition aborigène, mais résolument personnel.

Chaque toile de McLeod est une cartographie de l’âme, un chant silencieux porté par la présence de la chouette Ninoxe, animal totem et guide de l’artiste. Pointillisme, motifs circulaires, lignes vibrantes composent un univers méditatif et organique, véritable lieu de reconnexion entre l’intime et l’ancestral.

L’exposition « Doonooch Mabra – Owl Eyes | Dans le sillage de la chouette » propose une plongée dans cet univers singulier, où les œuvres deviennent des espaces de dialogue, de soin et de transmission. C’est un hommage à la mémoire collective, à la terre-mère, aux voix oubliées, porté par une artiste dont la démarche artistique est aussi une forme douce de résistance.

Niah utilise un langage symbolique visuel, à la fois codifié et vivant, qui constitue l’un des fondements de son approche stylistique. Ce langage permet à Niah de transmettre des récits à la fois personnels et collectifs, et de faire résonner, dans chaque oeuvre, la mémoire du territoire, l’héritage spirituel et l’expérience vécue.

The gallery Arts d’Australie • Stéphane Jacob is pleased to present "Doonooch Mabra – Owl Eyes", the first solo exhibition in France by Aboriginal artist Niah Juella McLeod, a rising figure on the contemporary Australian art scene.

Born in 1991 in New South Wales, Niah Juella McLeod is of Yuin heritage through her father and Anglo-Celtic lineage through her mother. This dual heritage, both intimate and powerful, infuses her work with a language of spirituality, memory, and healing—deeply rooted in Aboriginal tradition, yet unmistakably personal.

Each of McLeod’s paintings is a cartography of the soul, a silent song carried by the presence of the Barking Owl (Ninox)—her totem animal and spiritual guide. Dot work, circular motifs, and vibrating lines come together to create a meditative, organic world—a space for reconnection between the personal and the ancestral.

The exhibition "Doonooch Mabra – Owl Eyes " invites viewers into this singular universe, where the works become spaces of dialogue, healing, and transmission. It is a tribute to collective memory, Mother Earth, and forgotten voices, brought to life by an artist whose creative process is also a quiet form of resistance.

Niah employs a visual symbolic language, both codified and dynamic, which forms the foundation of her stylistic approach. Through this language, she conveys narratives that are at once personal and collective—imbuing each work with the resonance of land-based memory, spiritual heritage, and lived experience.
